MIL: Meeting the future in-laws

As announced earlier in this blog, my 3rd son is getting married in August.  We have not yet met the fiance, Gigi, face to face, but have Skyped with her a couple of times.  We trust our son has made the perfect decision because we can hear the happiness in his voice whenever he talks about his fiance.

When our older 2 sons got married, we met the parents of the brides a day or 2 before the wedding.  Both weddings took place out of our state and we never considered taking a trip out to meet the parents.  When Stena and Freddie were planning their wedding, I did email Stena's mom to ask about where we might hold the wedding breakfast--and that email led to chatty emails back and forth which I thoroughly enjoyed.  When I finally met Stena's mom in person, I felt like she was a long time friend.  Both sons have married into good families and have fine ILs.

Last weekend, we were delighted to welcome Gigi's parents into our home for a weekend visit.  Antonio and Elizabeth live a few hours north of us and having met Alvie a month ago, wanted to meet us as well.  They came in, sat down, and for the rest of the evening we visited as though we had been friends for years.  There was never a lull in the conversation (of course, it helped that they have lived very interesting lives!) and it was a real treat to meet the parents who raised the young lady who has captured our son's heart.

We will soon be on the road to meet Gigi in person, but having met her parents, we are confident that when we finally see her if will feel as though we are simply reconnecting with a long lost friend.
